- 288IV. The software bundled is Faxworks. Plug and play untility provided to
- support this modem actually works on non Plug ang Play bios equipped machine.
- After the second install everything works very well. It distinguishes between
- voice and fax without distinctive ring, moves from option to option quickly,
- and connects to my ISP with maximum sustained downloads on exe. and zip.
- files seen at over 3kb/s. It even can be set to give up the modem and comm
- port if called by another comm program. My example is a contact manager
- autodial and a DOS based terminal program. If a call comes in the faxworks
- prompts and you can answer or let it do its thing and then give back the
- port. Best I've seen at this. I even downloaded our internally developed EXE
- file which is about 1meg in size and written in clipper at over 5000 cps
- using V42. Don't know about the music, but the sampling rate can be set for
- both incoming and outgoing messages. I could be wrong but I think the max is
- around a 7bit sample rate and the one below at a 4 bit rate. At 4 bit the
- voice quality is superb.
-
- Music will not be hi-fi, but should sound very exceptable over a phone line.
-
- That is my experience, hope the above helps in your search. The price is very
- reasonable for the features (working!) that are provided. Flash upgradable
- and supports caller ID as well. A great value I think.
